The Young You in Menopause Do Souls Age?
We’re not 50.
We’re 18 with 32 years of experience.
I am 24, with 36 years of experience.
At 60, I still am that young woman, just in a less than a youthful body. The difference is in the way I see things and how I react to them. My spirit is still excited to live and thrive. I have no cynicism and no regrets.
During the 36 years, the 24-year-old was there looking out into the world trying to adapt and find the good in life, trying to enjoy it and to live fully.
Sometimes I succeeded, and many times I didn’t, because I was burdened by all the roles I had to play. I often forgot to pay full attention to the one character in the story of my life, which was me.
The impossibility of perfection
I was raised as a young girl to be good at everything. I tried and care for everybody, but least of all for myself. I often felt like Sisyphus, the Greek god who pushed the rock up a mountain over and over again.
The impossibility of being a perfect student, wife, mother, professional, friend, daughter, sister, cook, and homemaker… is what can crush most women. It can feel like being inside a pressure cooker.
In menopause, the pressure is released for many women.
The care and nurturing we give to others during our 20s, 30s, and 40s needs to be redirected to us! We need to rediscover that young woman looking forward to a life full of great challenges and beauty.
For me, the wake-up call happened when menopause started. I realized that it was time to take care of myself much more, so I created new habits and even rituals that would remind me to pamper myself.

Have a long time ahead
At 50, it is sometimes pretty difficult, but not impossible, to see all the time we have in front of us. For the rest of our lives, we owe it to ourselves to live a good life.
The average life expectancy for women is 82.5 years in the developed world.
That is a long time. What do you want those years to be like? I personally hope that the 30 something years in front of me, are filled with adventures, new skills, and experiences! I can’t wait.
The 24-year-old in me is jumping with joy because she has done her bit and now has time to rediscover who she really is, and have a great time in the process.
